Sheila and Enrico's love story could perfectly suit a modern day novel.
Not too long ago, Sheila graduated from an university in Cambridge, Massachusetts and also lived in Las Vegas, Nevada.
She was eager to live her life to the fullest, including inspiring and helping others. She knew she wanted to make a change somewhere.
But first, to broaden her horizons, she needed to travel, explore, and go to unknown places. She wanted to meet members of the deaf communities outside of the United States and get to know them and the culture they live in.
So she packed for a solo backpacking trip to Europe. Her first stop was Iceland and Italy was her last stop - spanning about 6 months of solo trip. There was no set itinerary, so she asked the "Deaf & Signing Group" on Couchsurfing.com if they are willing to host her for few days while she backpacked through Europe.
Enrico saw her post and offered her a place to stay in Padua area with him and his family.
They realized they had a lot in common and truly enjoyed each other's company. Long walks, late night conversations about dreams, passion for traveling, and more importantly, food, went on for the whole week. (Legend says Sheila introduced tacos and guacamole to the Italian folk!)
And soon enough - BAM! The love happened.
Their first kiss happened under a bridge while on a gondola in Venice.
Enrico is a very kind hearted guy. His catchy laugh and big smile is the first thing you notice about him and no doubt it is part of why Sheila fell in love with him.
They have a really unique way of communicating with each other: A mixture of Italian Sign Language (Lingua dei Segni Italiana or LIS) and American Sign Language, sweet glances, and warm hugs.
The day in Venice was very gloomy and cloudy, but it suited perfectly to create the effects of Fall engagement photos we wanted to achieve.
Venice in autumn is perfect for photos because there are fewer tourists buzzing around and the clouded sky provides a very soft diffused light.
